Personal Update:
Some friends on FB tell me they are living vicariously through our adventure of selling everything and moving from Kansas to Puerto Rico. So far, it's been quite the adventure!(Yes, we sold pretty much everything. Took 2 suitcases each and our cat Charlie. Althought I do have a few things in storage - like books! - that I can't get rid of. lol)
We've been here two months now, and if you enjoy travelogues, I've written 5 blog posts detailing the why and how and what and posted them on my wife's website: Boom Travel & Wellness. (Link is to last update which include links to all the other posts.)
For those who want to skip the details, here's a picture from our rooftop terrace with an ocean view. We are settling in, and most importantly, our 19 yo Charlie is adjusting to the heat and humidity!
Stacking the Shelves:I sometimes go on a search for a new-to-me writer in various genres that I get a hankering for. Recently, I was on the lookout for some crime or espionage and came across a guy named Thomas Sewell who writes military thrillers. Close enough! I like this genre even though I've never served in the military.
New to me author, Thomas Sewell's military thrillers. |
Haven't read them yet, but will probably start with the Sam Harper book (Ranger Selection) as it's a prequel story to, according to Goodreads, three books in the series. Do any of you like military thrillers?
As for what I've read and #amreading, see this past Monday's Book Date Monday #6. I'm tyiing to number them so I can easily reference my previous entries. So far, I'm far from consistent!
Blast from the Past:
I was a pretty avid book blogger about 15 years ago. When I was searching for my Sunday Roundup posts so I could start numbering them, I came across one of my very first roundups - from 2007!
It's a TBR roundup. And glancing over the list, I'm embarrassed to say that I have not in the last 15 years gotten to them all yet! LOL I'll come back and update this post with how many of those books I have actually read. (Update: See comments below. I read 8 of the 13, so not bad, lol.)
But for now, happy reading! Tell me what's on your shelf recently, currently, or for the future.
Oh! And PS - What I'm Writing...
My latest cozy adventure (maybe mystery? lol) goes live on September 1st. It's called Ma Tutt's Secret Spice. If you are a cozy reviewer and want a free ARC, let me know! Working on the next book in the series now, Ma Tutt's Christmas Cookies (will pubish by mid-October, I hope!).
Enjoy living in Puerto Rico!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Good so far!
DeleteOne of my friends is from Puerto Rico, and she often speaks of how beautiful it is there. It would be a dream to actually live there. I'm sure the weather is amazing.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. I couldn't be as brave as you and take a look back at my TBR of fifteen years ago to see what is still unread. Still I look forward to seeing how you've done...

Have a great week!

Spy books count! Happy reading and thanks for stopping by.
DeleteExcellent. I have read a couple of spy books for Blog Tours - Lucifers Game and The Postmistress of Paris. You too :)
DeleteI am very curious as to why you moved to Puerto Rico, will have to look at that. Good luck with your book launches and hopefully you all are settling in well. It is always hard to move/adjust to a new country.
ReplyDeleteIt has been challenging, that is definitely true. But the move is wonderful - and basic reason? New chapter of life and we wanted to do something different! :) Thanks for stopping by.
Delete*waves from elsewhere* in the Caribbean...I imagine it will be quite the adjustment but I'm sure you'll embrace it all; welcome.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Quite warm here by the ocean, so that will be an adjustment! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI hope you love the move. I think it might be too warm or humid for me but I haven't researched it. I did ride my Harley 19,000 miles through 29 states a few years back and along with massive computer searches and analysis decided to move from Minnesota to North Carolina. It's been a good change and certainly a longer gardening season here.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
That is so cool. Enjoy your gardning and books! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteHow brave you two (and Charlie) are! I think it sounds marvelous and I especially love that view. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Brave or crazy, either one, lol.
DeleteI love your spirit of adventure for moving to PR! Why not live life to the fullest! I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it's quite the adventure so far. Getting used to the heat!
DeleteI would love to go to Puerto Rico. I know a few people that are from there.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Come visit any time!
DeleteHow fun! This is something my husband wants to do, except he wants to move to the Virgin Islands. He loves sailing so he wants to do a charter company there. I'm more hesitant because I don't want to leave certain people and I want to finish school first. Good luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteIf we had grandkids it would have been a harder decision. We'll likely end up back in KS when we "really retire." lol. But yes, go for it. US Virgin Islands look wonderful. They're on our list to visit.
DeleteYour move sounds so exciting! Good luck with everything! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Have a great week as well!
DeleteSo glad the move went well. I'm too much of a homebody to ever go off on an adventure like that. I enjoy travelling but am always glad to get "home" again. Happy reading and good luck with the new novel.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a different chapter of our lives right now, but we'll likely head back to KS when we 'really retire' lol. Thanks for the well wishes too. Have a great week.
DeleteLovely to touch base with you after all this time, Lyn:)). Congratulations on the move and I hope you are really happy in your new life - great to see you are still writing!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! But since you posted anonymously, I don't know who I've reconnected with! Message me on FB or email me. Yep, still writing, or trying to! Getting better, I hope!
DeleteHave a great week.
I'm sure you're not the only one with a 15 year TBR backlog!
ReplyDeleteHa, probably not!
DeleteI wish you both much happiness in your new life in Puerto Rico! I can't quite imagine selling everything to move to a new place, but it's probably very freeing as well as exciting.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, and happy reading and writing!
Freeing, exciting, a little nerve-wracking! I was a mess getting rid of things as I'm pretty sentimental. Very difficult at times, so I rented a 5x5 storage unit for 2 years! lol
DeleteThat's quite a major life shake-up. So glad it's going well for you!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you haver a great view! And that's quite the adventure. Looking forward tohearing more about it as time goes on. It is funny sometimes how some books we never seem to get to, or it takes years!
ReplyDeleteBe well this week. :)
Thanks, you too. I used to have some books on my shelf that I swore I'd read, then picked it up and started skimming trying to remember it and nope, had never read it! lol
DeleteMy hubby and I have talked off and on over the years about retiring somewhere other than the US - and yet, here we still are, in Seattle. The main reason? Want to stay close enough to the kids (grown) to see them regularly. But, I love to travel and we've been lots of fun places over the years, so that's our compensation! I look forward to reading more about your adventures and settling in. For readers, books are always a comforting and homey grounding thing, so I'm glad you're finding some of interest to read. Thanks for visiting me - Terrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, travel is great and we follow a lot of other travelogues just to see what's out there. And I always take 2 or 3 books with me on vacation, lol. Plus my kindle!
DeleteWhat a change to move from Kansas to Puerto Rico! That's amazing. I recently moved from Southern California to Northern California to get out of the crowds and ugliness of the city area. So much prettier up here and I like being in a smaller town. Hope you enjoy your new area. That photo looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in the Central Valley, near Fresno. And my cozy mystery takes place on the route to Yosemite north of Oakhurst at Sugar Pine (though I add 'Station' to the name of the town to fictionalize it lol). Enjoy your new home. Agree, big cities are too crowded for me too.
DeleteWhat a wonderful adventure!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It is so far!
DeleteThat's a huge change! I'm not sure I could do it. Glad you're enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteI signed up for your newsletter. I look forward to reading the free book!
Did you get the ebook? I never know if MailChimp sends it out! lol. Just a short collection of "cozy thrillers" ;) Thanks for stopping by and joining my mailing list!
DeleteAw, we have a cat named Charlie, too. Wow, what an adventure!
ReplyDeleteCharlie was the name of my wife's cat growing up, so must be popular for a cat! Thanks for stopping by!
