First Line Friday - The Billionaire's Nanny

The weekend, people!

Welcome to First Line Friday hosted by Reading Is My Superpower. To participate, add your blog link here and visit the other book bloggers listed there and comment on their posts. Or just share what you're reading in the comments below. (FYI, I use affiliate links to Amazon throughout my blog.)

Currently Reading: The Billionaire's Nanny by Elizabeth Maddrey. This is book 1 in her new Billionaire Next Door series, a Christian romance series that ties in with her other novels (approaching 40 books? see her website for the complete list).

Disclaimer - Beth is my niece and I've read all her books. :-)

Love the cover, btw.

Story opens with a prologue on how Scott, our MC, and his friends become uber wealthy. Then the set up - he becomes guardian to a three year old! Well, along with the 3 year old, Beckett, comes a caretaker, Whitney, who ends up as the nanny. Fun!

I'm about halfway through the ARC - the book drops in 4 days on March 15, 2022. It's available pre-order for only 99 cents!

It's first person POV for both Scott and Whitney. Here are the first lines from Scott...

I shifted on the couch, getting more comfortable. The TV droned in the background, more for noise than because I cared about the baseball game. Living in Old Town Alexandria, I was a Washington Nationals fan...

So we know the setting right away, which is important for me as a reader. I want to know who, where, and what right off the bat. Ha, get it? Off the bat... and I'm not even a baseball fan. But evidently Scott is and that tells me a bit about him. That's important for me as well.

Overall, then, a gentle opening that doesn't necessarily grab one's attention, but heh, if you aren't hooked by the title of the book, then you probably haven't gotten to page one to sample the opening chapter anyway. And Maddrey's 'billionaire' books are more kinda-sorta billionaire stories. Her focus is definitely on the characters, their Chrsitian walk and relationships, not the jetsetting lifestyle.

Another weekly meme is the #Friday56 - a snippet from page 56 or location 56 if on a tablet. Here's what I found (regarding the investment strategy that turns them all into billionaires)...

I copied a few links into the group chat. Should I put my suggestion out now, or give them time to read? Would any of them have the same thought?

Oh, if only it were that easy. I'd do some stock trading tomorrow! But heh, it's fiction and fun and reading is an escape to fantasy. So let's roll with it. At any rate, that's what I'm reading right now. What's your first line this Friday? Comment below or I'll see you on the links.

    2. I was part of FLF for a really long time, before Hoarding Books was created to make things a little more stream-lined and easier to access. It was always so interesting to see such a wide variety of books represented. I was also much better at queueing up posts a month ahead of time. I don't have the time anymore, but I also don't always have the time to do them week-by-week. Good luck to us both!
