Just received my free review copy of Mike Duran's sophomore project, The Telling. So far so good. I want to finish it in time to be a part of the blog tour hosted by CSF&F in a few weeks.
Now, last month or so I read (and reviewed) Duran's The Resurrection. This current novel is very different and, in my opinion, is a better told tale. I'll post a full review later.
The crazy thing is that I've got 4 or 5 books in my "currently reading" pile. I don't know how it happens! When a new book shows up on my doorstep or in my Kindle it just forces itself upon me. (grin)
So here's a quick list of what's got my attention this month:
* Milo James Fowler's short story, Life Is What We Make It. Fowler is one of many current writers (myself included) who is publishing their short stories as ebooks and making them available at Amazon, etc. I think it's a great idea and will post a review soon. Although our writing voices are different, I think we share a similar sense of humor and narrative style at times.
Both Fowler and Polson are/have been English teachers (like myself) - so I consider them kindred spirits, and I hope, although we haven't met in person, online writerly friends. Because of these current commitments the other two novels I'm reading are temporarily on the back burner - The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and The Bourne Ultimatum by Robert Ludlum.
So, what are you reading right now? And how many more books will sneak in there and push your current novel to the back of the nightstand?
Just finished Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card...and trying to finish Keir by Pippa Jay at the moment.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed Ender's Game - what did you think? Still holds up in the years since it was written and every dog and his brother have adopted his trope? It was original and had a huge reveal when I first read it. IMO, anyway. :)
