ResAliens Press (my small press venture) is ready to announce our next multi-author anthology. It's titled Steampunk Spirit, with an anticipated publication date of August 31, 2012. The submission window opens [UPDATE:] MAY 1st; the reading period is JUNE; acceptances sent out in JULY. Here's what we're looking for.
Steampunk Spirit is an anthology of about 25 short stories (ranging from 1000 to 6000 words) that re-imagine today's world in steampunk style. We are looking for well-formulated fiction with a supernatural or spiritual element. Stories do not have to be religious in nature, but they should be in the PG range and avoid vulgar language, explicit violence, and sexuality.
What genre again? Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction fantasy loosely set within the context of the Victorian era. Stories typically utilize the technological advancements of the late 19th century (e.g., steam powered machinery) and touch on societal themes of change, discovery, social mobility, etc. Magical elements are often included as well. Think Charles Dickens writing speculative fiction or even Sherlock Holmes in space. Let your imagination run wild and get ready to submit your story starting April 1st. (We'll use an online submission tool and post a link then.) In the mean time, spread the word!
UPDATE: Just so you know, payment will be $5 per story and one contributor copy per author. Here's a link to our last anthology, While the Morning Stars Sing featuring writers Aaron Polson, Cate Gardner, Pete Mesling, Steve Goble, Breanna R. Teintze, Stoney M. Setzer, Margaret Karmazin, T. J. McIntyre, R. L. Copple, Fred Warren, Carole McDonnell, Kat Heckenbach, S. J. Higbee, Jeff Draper, Richard H. Fay, and more.
